Mardi Gras Parade 2020: It’s Lundi Gras, which means Proteus and Orpheus are set to roll through the streets of New Orleans as Mardi Gras 2020 reaches its apex. Watch all the action right here on Offical TV on our Mardi Gras Parade Camera at the Lafayette Hotel.
Festival-goers will even have a chance to catch some colorful beads and koozies at this family-friendly event.
Elaine Motl, event producer for the Padre Island Business Association, said the festival will include live music, food trucks that serve Cajun-style dishes, art exhibitiors and plenty of free activities for the kids.
“We are really excited to bring back our New Orleans-style Mardi Gras to South Texas,” Motl said.
Celebrations for the event began in January and will end on Tuesday, Feb. 25 (Fat Tuesday) with a King and Queens Ball at Waves Resort.
“The King and Queens Ball is a New Orleans tradition. We choose two people in our community who have made an impact on Padre Island,” Motl said. “The two winners will then become ambassadors for Barefoot Mardi Gras throughout the year. It’s a coveted title to be the King and Queen.”
Motl said the Barefoot Mardi Gras celebration also helps raise funds for charity groups like Big Brothers Big Sisters, a nonprofit dedicated to helping all children reach their potential through one-to-one relationships with volunteer mentors, and the Seashore Charter Schools on Padre Island.
“We are here to help make our community a better place and we are really excited for everyone to come out and join us during this Mardi Gras,” Motl said.
